If you’ve ever been to a track meet you know how long it takes to go through all of the events. It may seem lengthy but to the runners and throwers it’s very fast paced. Coach Mike Carrow has been head coach for the past 2 years and was an assistant coach for 6 years. Carrow coaches the runners and says, “most runners have the speed, but they lack the endurance to hold that speed.” So, the coaches design workouts to specifically increase the runners’ endurance. Carrow also says, “if a runner’s endurance is stronger, their lactic acid threshold improves which leads to faster runners.” Carrow’s favorite part about coaching track is watching the runners realize that their hard work has paid off and run their personal best. So far both girls and boys track teams have won the regional meet and will continue into states.

Girls Tennis

The girls tennis team has an impressive reputation of winning state championships. Last year the RHS girls tennis team won both individual and team state championships. Coach Mark Sarver says winning a state championships represents all of the hard work and dedication to the game. Sarver has been coaching for the past 45 years and has coached high school and college for the past 33 years. For the players to prepare for the season take a lot of energy and hard work. Sarver says that they all participate in clinics, lessons, and tournaments throughout the year so they are ready to play when the season comes around. They are also all enrolled in the tennis academy, Tennis on Main. The girls tennis team has won regions this year and will continue to work hard and prepare states.
