Serving up a State Championship
Coming down off the high of winning the 2016 VHSL State Championship, the Girls’ tennis team received their rings Friday night at the football game against James River. Their rings were a long awaited symbol of the hard work and dedication the girls put into their season.
The tennis team faced many challenges on their road to success before the state match against Auburn. With a last minute change in leadership, the team found themselves in the hands of Grace Sarver, new coach and daughter of their previous coach. The girls immediately bonded with Sarver, because she coached them on so many new skills for the game. “She taught us to work our hardest, even though circumstances change,” said Sarah Ward, junior.
Unanimously, the team decided they would stop at nothing to win the state title. The girls have a sibling like bond that won’t be broken, as well as amazing chemistry on the court. “These girls are my best friends, I don’t know what I’d do without them,” said Mallory Wood, junior.
The team is looking forward to another great season, and are ready to defend their State Championship status. They are also looking forward to new members joining the team.
